A ductless mini split heats and cools a room or area without ductwork, which makes it a good fit for spaces your central system doesn't reach. EZ HVAC & Electric handles mini split installation, mini split repair and mini split replacement in Charlotte, NC and nearby towns, and the electrical work for the new unit is done in-house.

Room-by-room comfort

Where mini splits work well

  • Garage mini splits for workshops and home gyms
  • Room additions, sunrooms and finished basements
  • Bonus rooms over the garage that never stay comfortable
  • Older homes without ductwork
  • Converted spaces like offices, studios and in-law suites

Plan your system

Single-zone and multi-zone systems

A single-zone system pairs one outdoor unit with one indoor head for a single room or open area. A multi-zone system runs several indoor heads from one outdoor unit, each with its own temperature control. We'll recommend the right setup for the space and size each head for the room it serves.

What installation includes

Placement of the indoor and outdoor units, refrigerant line set and condensate drain, and the dedicated circuit and disconnect. Because we're licensed electricians too, you don't need a separate electrician for the wiring.

Ductless repairs

Ductless mini split repair

We repair ductless systems that stop heating or cooling, leak water, show error codes or ice over. If an older mini split isn't worth fixing, we'll quote a replacement.

For whole-home heating and cooling with ducts, compare a central heat pump or new AC installation.

Upfront clarity

What affects the cost of a mini split

  • Number of zones

each indoor head adds equipment and labor.

  • Capacity

sized to the room's square footage, insulation, windows and sun exposure.

  • Line set length and route

the distance between indoor and outdoor units and how the lines are run and covered.

  • Indoor unit style

wall-mounted heads are most common; ceiling cassettes and ducted units cost more.

  • Electrical

the distance from your panel and whether the panel has room for a new circuit.

Our process

Installation: what to expect

During the estimate we look at the space, where the indoor and outdoor units can go, and how the refrigerant lines and condensate drain will be routed.

  • Place the equipment

On installation day we mount the indoor unit and set the outdoor unit.

  • Connect lines and drain

We run and connect the refrigerant line set and condensate drain.

  • Wire the system

We wire the dedicated circuit and disconnect.

  • Start and walk through

We vacuum the lines, start the system and show you how to use the remote.

A single-zone install is often finished in one day; multi-zone systems take longer.

Everyday care

Caring for a mini split

  • Clean the filters

Clean the indoor unit's washable filters every month or two during heavy use.

  • Clear the outdoor unit

Keep the outdoor unit clear of plants and debris.

  • Watch for drain problems

Watch for water dripping from the indoor unit, which usually means a drain problem.

  • Check coils and drainage

Have the coils and drain checked periodically, especially in rooms that run year-round.

Choose the right approach

Mini split or extend the central system?

Adding a duct run from your existing system can work for a small addition, but only if the equipment has spare capacity and the new duct can reach the room without long, looping runs. Garages, sunrooms and bonus rooms over garages usually do better with their own mini split, because they gain and lose heat differently from the rest of the house and would otherwise throw off the whole system's balance.

Mini splits use variable-speed (inverter) compressors that ramp up and down to match the room, so they run quietly and efficiently. We'll look at both options during the estimate and tell you which one fits.

FAQ

Good questions. Straight answers.

Mini Split Installation & Repair in Charlotte, NC.

How much does a mini split cost in Charlotte?

It depends on the number of zones, the size of each space and how far the indoor units are from the outdoor unit. Estimates for new mini splits are free.

Can a mini split heat and cool?

Yes. Ductless mini splits are heat pumps, so the same system cools in summer and heats in winter.

Single-zone vs multi-zone?

Single-zone is one indoor unit for one space. Multi-zone connects several indoor units to one outdoor unit so multiple rooms each get their own control. We'll recommend what fits your layout.

Can you put a mini split in a garage?

Yes. A mini split is often the simplest way to heat and cool a garage. We'll size it for the garage's insulation and doors and run a dedicated circuit for it.
