Local home comfort

Why ductwork matters in Charlotte homes

In many Charlotte-area homes the ductwork runs through a hot attic or a humid crawl space. A leaking return duct there can pull in hot, damp air, and a leaking supply duct dumps cooled air where it does no good. The result is a system that runs longer, rooms that never quite get comfortable and, in summer, condensation on ducts that aren't sealed and insulated well.

Two-story homes often have a second floor that runs several degrees warmer than the first. Sometimes that's the equipment, but it's often the ductwork: undersized runs, too few returns or poor balancing.

Our process

How we evaluate your ductwork

  • Inspect the ducts

Inspect the accessible duct runs in the attic, crawl space or basement for disconnects, crushed sections, missing insulation and leaks.

  • Check room airflow

Check airflow at the supply registers and returns, room by room.

  • Review sizing and layout

Look at how the ducts are sized and laid out for the equipment.

  • Explain and price

Explain what we found and recommend the repairs that will make the biggest difference, with a price for each.

Upfront clarity

What affects the cost

  • How much of the system needs repair, sealing or replacement
  • Access: open attics are easier than tight crawl spaces or finished areas
  • Materials: flexible duct versus sheet metal, and insulation levels
  • Whether registers, returns or balancing dampers need to be added

You'll get the price before any work starts.

Built to perform

Duct sealing and insulation, done right

Duct leaks are sealed with mastic or approved foil tape at the joints, collars and boots, not ordinary cloth duct tape, which dries out and fails in a hot attic. Ducts running through unconditioned attics and crawl spaces should also be insulated to keep summer heat out of the cool air and to prevent condensation.

Returns matter as much as supplies. A home with too few returns, or returns that are undersized, starves the system of air and makes it work harder. We check both sides when we evaluate your ductwork.

FAQ

Good questions. Straight answers.

Ductwork Installation & Repair in Charlotte, NC.

What are the signs your ductwork needs repair?

Uneven temperatures between rooms, weak airflow at some vents, visible damage in the attic or crawl space, dust from the vents and higher energy bills are the most common signs.

How long does ductwork last?

Well-installed ductwork can last decades, but ducts in hot attics and crawl spaces often develop leaks, loose connections and damaged insulation over time. We'll inspect yours and tell you whether repair or replacement makes sense.

Is duct sealing worth it?

Usually, yes. Sealing leaks keeps the air you pay to heat and cool going to your rooms instead of the attic, which improves comfort and helps the system run less.

Do you install ductwork in new construction?

Yes. We design and install duct systems for new homes and additions, sized to the HVAC equipment and the layout.
