Your next system
Heat pump installation and replacement
A new heat pump can replace both an older AC and electric heat, or pair with a gas furnace as a dual-fuel system that switches to gas on the coldest days. We size the system to your home and handle the electrical work, including a new circuit or disconnect if needed. Estimates for new systems are free.

Year-round comfort
How a heat pump works in Charlotte
A heat pump moves heat instead of making it. In summer it pulls heat out of the house like an air conditioner; in winter it reverses and pulls heat from the outdoor air into the house. With Charlotte's mild winters, a properly sized heat pump handles most of the heating season on its own.
On the coldest nights, electric auxiliary heat strips in the air handler help out. That's normal during a cold snap. If auxiliary heat is running on mild days, the heat pump isn't doing its job and should be checked. A dual-fuel setup pairs the heat pump with a gas furnace instead of heat strips.

Between service visits
Keeping your heat pump running well
Give it breathing room
Keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, mulch and shrubs, with a couple of feet of open space around it.
Keep the filter clean
Change or clean the air filter regularly. Restricted airflow hurts a heat pump in both heating and cooling.
Adjust the thermostat gradually
Avoid big thermostat setbacks in winter. Raising the temperature several degrees at once can switch on the auxiliary heat strips, which cost more to run.
Leave the unit uncovered
Don't cover the outdoor unit in winter; it needs to run.
Plan seasonal service
Schedule a tune-up before the heating or cooling season.

FAQ
Good questions. Straight answers.
Heat Pump Services in Charlotte, NC.
Why is my heat pump not heating?
It could be a thermostat setting, a reversing valve stuck in cooling mode, a defrost problem, low refrigerant or a failed outdoor fan or compressor. If the system is only running on emergency heat, call us. That usually means the heat pump itself isn't working.
Is ice on my heat pump normal?
A light coat of frost in cold, damp weather is normal, and the unit should clear it with a defrost cycle. If the outdoor unit stays covered in thick ice or the coil is a solid block, something is wrong with the defrost system or airflow.
Repair or replace an older heat pump?
Repair makes sense for a single failed part on a system in good shape. If the compressor has failed, the unit is older, or repairs keep coming, a replacement is usually the better value. We'll lay out both options.
How much does a heat pump cost in Charlotte?
It depends on the size of the home, the efficiency of the equipment and whether ductwork or electrical changes are needed. Estimates for new heat pumps are free.
