A clear price before work starts
A new air conditioner is a big purchase, and how it's sized and installed matters as much as the brand. Replacement signs
When it's time to replace your AC
If your current system isn’t keeping you comfortable, it may be time for a new one. Here are a few common signs.
- The system is older and repairs are getting more frequent
- The compressor has failed on an older unit
- It uses R-22 refrigerant, which is no longer produced
- Some rooms never get comfortable, or energy bills keep climbing
- You're finishing a basement, adding a room or remodeling
What's included
What’s included in a new AC installation
A complete installation, handled by the licensed owner from start to finish. Every home is different, and we tailor the system to your space and comfort needs.
Sizing for your home
We size the system to your home instead of simply matching the old unit. An oversized AC can short-cycle and leave the house clammy.
Central AC and matched indoor coil
Central air installation for new and existing homes, including a matched indoor coil for proper performance.
Air handler when needed
We replace the indoor air handler when it is part of your system upgrade.
Electrical work in-house
Disconnects, breakers and circuits for the new system are handled by the same licensed tech.
Startup and testing
Refrigerant charge, airflow and thermostat setup are checked before we leave.
Leaking or undersized ducts can hold a new system back. We check them during the estimate and can handle ductwork repair and replacement at the same time.
Choose your system
AC or heat pump?
Central air conditioning (AC)
An AC system cools your home in summer and can pair with an existing gas furnace for heat.
Heat pump
A heat pump cools like an AC in summer and also heats efficiently through much of Charlotte’s winter.
We’ll explain both options during your free estimate. Explore heat pump services →
New construction
Building a new home?
We install complete HVAC systems in new homes for builders, contractors and owners building their own. That includes equipment selection, duct runs, rough-in and final startup. Because we're also licensed electricians, the HVAC electrical work doesn't need a separate trade on the schedule.

What affects the cost
What affects the cost of a new AC
Every home is different. We size the system to your space and explain what goes into your estimate.
- System size. Larger homes need more capacity, and the right size depends on insulation, windows and layout as well as square footage.
- Efficiency. Higher-efficiency and variable-speed systems cost more up front and less to run.
- AC or heat pump. A heat pump costs more than a straight AC but also covers most of your heating.
- Indoor equipment. Whether the indoor coil or air handler is replaced at the same time.
- Ductwork and line set. Leaking or undersized ducts, or a refrigerant line set that can't be reused.
- Electrical work. A new disconnect, breaker or circuit for the new equipment.
Your free estimate lists these items so you can see exactly what you're paying for.

Efficiency ratings
Efficiency ratings, explained
New air conditioners and heat pumps are rated in SEER2, which measures cooling efficiency over a season. A higher number uses less electricity for the same cooling. Minimum efficiency standards in the Southeast went up in 2023, so even a basic new system is noticeably more efficient than a unit from ten or fifteen years ago.
The highest rating isn't always the best value. We'll compare a couple of options and how long each would take to pay back in lower power bills for your home.

FAQ
Good questions. Straight answers.
AC installation and replacement in Charlotte, NC.
How much does a new AC cost in Charlotte?
It depends on the size of the home, the equipment you choose and whether ductwork or electrical changes are needed. Estimates for new systems are free, and you'll get a clear price before any work is scheduled.
How long does AC installation take?
A straightforward replacement is usually done in a day. Jobs that add ductwork, move equipment or change electrical service can take longer. We'll give you the timeline with your estimate.
What size AC does my home need?
The right size depends on the home's square footage, insulation, windows, layout and ductwork, not just the size of the old unit. We size the system to the house during the estimate.
Do you install HVAC in new construction?
Yes. We install complete HVAC systems in new homes for builders and owners, including duct runs and the HVAC electrical work.
Heat pump or AC: which is better in Charlotte?
Both work well here. A heat pump cools like an AC and also handles most of your heating, while an AC paired with a gas furnace suits homes that already have gas heat. We'll compare the two for your home at the estimate.
